According to Roger Ebert who is a reliable source that the Virgin Spring would be adapted at least three more times, the last two in the original and remake of the horror film Last House on the Left. Ebert was a huge fan of Bergman but he admitted that Virgin Spring was one of his lesser works.
There's an old joke that one of Bergman's wives saw this film and told him: "It's a masterpiece. But Ingmar it's a dreary masterpiece." Considering that Bergmanesque is practically a term that even people who haven't seen his films know by heart, that could apply to almost all of his films. But based on what you tell me here, it does seem like it would fit for Virgin Spring.
