Actually let me put it another way. I see from Amazon that you are a best-selling author. I've been meaning to write a column for awhile about this very subject, so I will put the question to you?
Let's engage in some magical thinking. Let's say, for the sake of argument, you and everyone who agrees with you, everyone of you who clearly knows exactly what is wrong with America, gain political power. Indulge me. Say you and your wave of thought get elected to the Presidency. You and your thinkers gaining overwhelming majorities in both houses of Congress. Say that your first action is to appoint enough Justices to the Supreme Court to get a progressive majority. Again, this is an alternative America; you're familiar with the genre.
Now since you know clearly everything that is wrong with America, how do you fix it? All of the flaws in the system that is America that you and everybody who agrees with you clearly knows about, I'm giving you the power that you believe the one percent have.
What's your first step? How do you bring about the financial equality that you and your colleagues seem to want so badly? How do you redistribute the weallth so that everybody is equal?
How do you rid the country of the institutional racism that has plagued us since we came here?
How do you bring about gender equality in America?
How do you manage to fix all of the divides between the rich and the poor, the rural and the urban, the uneducated and the educated? How do you start fixing the larger problems such as climate change and all the antitrust? And more importantly, once you do all these things, how do you enforce them? How do you deal with dissent? Any dissent, not just from the corporations or the oligarch but all of those 'ignorant rural voters' as you so eloquently put it in a previous article, agree with you?
You no doubt assume I am being facetious. On the contrary, I am very serious. I've read far too many articles at this veyr blog that have absolutely no problem decrying everything that is wrong with America and that it is hopelessly broken. You blame every facet of our society - your Other is anyone who disagrees with your point of view even slightly. But whenever I have challenged you or any of your colleagues - who on this site alone are legion - you either ignore me or just often insult me by calling me a right-winger. I am , for the record, a registered Democrats, who despite his dismay in the system has voted in every election since he became eliguble. (I note you did not answer my query either time if you actually voted.)
So I am inviting you, this author, to speak. You have the vocabulary and clearly the platform. Take all the time you need and use all of your imaginative powers. I am willing to hear you out if you have anything remotely approaching a solution to deal with any one of the problems you and your ilk are certain exist and the system as it exists can never fix. Tell all of us. Convince us. And if you can not, never write an article like this again.
This invitation extends to any of the countless followers who clearly agree with you. You know what's wrong with the world. What do you want to do to fix it? Because I assure you, this ain't doing the job.
