Actually one of the nicer fringe benefit of Peak tv has been that it has been providing roles for women of a cerftain age. The GILDED Age gives women all the power and all of the best lines -- and its set in 19th century New York. It has every single broadway actress and character actress in critical roles: Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Audra McDonald, KellI o'Hara, Debra Monk, Jeanne Tripplehorn - actually it's easier to argue who they don't have.

Jennifer Jason Leigh plays the mother of all mothers in this season of Fargo. Jodie's NYad co-star Annette Bening finally stepped into Peak tV THIS year in Apples Never Fall - and personaally speaking i'd rather see her get aN EMMY than Jodie. Imedla Staunton is likely for a nomination for Queen Elizabeth the elder on The Crown. Kristin Scott Thomas is the head of MI-5 who is, if anything, more hardened than Foster is on Slow Horses. And Julianne Moore, who I worship as an actress, is doing superb things in Mary and George, a brilliantly period piece drama in which she plays, if anything, a darker character than Foster.

Carrie Preston is Elsbeth on CBS a very different middle aged crime fighter (and frankly a lot more fun) . She will make up for the disappearance of Marcia Gay Harden whose incredible comedy So Help me tODD has been cancelled. And if you haven't seen Capote Vs The Swans, get ready to see four of the greatest actresses of a certain ages playing society figures of the 1970s New York Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Calista Flockhart and Chloe Sevigny with smaller roles for Demi Moore and Molly Ringwald.

All of these women are in their fifties or older, all are well among the greatest actresses in history, even if some of them are less famous then others and I can't imagine any of them having roles on TV like this even ten years ago. All of these series, I should add, began after the 2021 Geena Davis report you mention, so progress has clearly been made. Hopefully more will be coming.

After years of laboring for love in my blog on TV, I have decided to expand my horizons by blogging about my great love to a new and hopefully wider field.
