Asphalt Jungle was immensely respected at the time but it is remembered today, if at all, for being one of three major films that Marilyn Monroe made her breakthrough to the world in 1950. (The one that everyone remembers, justifiably, is All About Eve.) I think it actually won of the three Oscars for writing that year (the other two were All About Eve and Sunset Blvd.) oTHER films that year were Born Yesterday and Harvey, so it's a credit to Asphalt Jungle it got that many nominations at all.
