By the time I was old enough to appreciate baseball (roughly 10) Fernando was past his prime. The Dodgers ever since they moved to LA have always had magnificent starters from Koufax and Drysdale to Kershaw but Fernando was special in his own way. Even when he was retired he still had an imprint on the popular culture that was there.

I was overjoyed to see the Dodgers win and profoundly moved by the opening ceremony to see Steve Yeager, who caught Fernano and Orel Hersheiser who pitched with him, place the ball on the mound for him.
