First of all, thank you for writing this article so I don't have to any more.

Joking aside, this was one of the most towering achievements I've seen in what has been a superb year for television generally. I've written about in my final article for this series about the parallels between The Penguin and both The Sopranos and Breaking Bad and lest we forget both of these series are about men who do horrible things ostensibly in the name of their fmaily (for Tony Soprano it's BOTH of them)

I think that is why The Penguin has resonated beyond the usual comic book culture with so many other critics who tend to think such work is beneath them. I confess to being one of them; I've had debates about many comic book franchises about being about nohting but themselves. The sole exception to that, universally, have been any films having to do with Batman. The Penguin continues in the tradtion not only of Matt Reeeves but such geniuses as Christopher Nolan and Todd Phillips and is another argument that the limited series may be a better form for all comic book stories than any series of movies. this is the third unquestioned masterpiece limited series based on a comic book I've seen, ranking with HBO's Watchmen and WandaVision, both of which were about far more than easter eggs for the fans. This week the end of year awards show nominations start coming out. Look for the series, Farrell and Miloti to be making a lot of appearances on the red carper this year.
