Goggins has been one of the most undervalued actors in Peak TV, since his work in The Shield to his role of a lifetime as Boyd Crowder on Justified (one of the most underappreciated series of the 2010s) He also had a recurring role of Sons of Anarchy and is one of the partners in crime on Danny McBride: the two of them have worked together on the HBO comedies Vice Principals and most recently The Righteous Gemstones. There is nothing Goggins isn't good at.
Coon is currently doing incredible work on HBO's The Gilded Age which I have very quickly considered one of the first great shows of the 2020s. The creation of Julian Fellowes, whose Downton Abbey I could not get into it, it may be the greatest series HBO has done that does not seem like it belongs on HBO. By which I mean, there is no violence, very little nudity and no profanity stronger than goddamn (which I think I've heard thrre times in two seasons). Coon is one of the co-leads of the show that currently has the greatest assemblage of actors. Let me just give you a partial list:
Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Talissa Famiga, Audra McDonald, Kelli O'Hara, Debra Monk, Nathan Lane (recurring) and Louise Jacobson, who is the third daughter of Meryl Streep who has gotten into her mother's profession.
Back to the subject: considering the vast array of quality projects both of these actors have done, I am appalled that they have each received a single Emmy nomination. Considering the Emmys (somewhat ridiculous) compulsion to nominate every actor in the cast of The White Lotus for an Emmy (eight nominees last year, nine this year) I can only hope that this Lotus-nomices trickles down the prizes that these two have been owed from the Academy for a VERY LONG time.
