I always love your articles. I have long since thought one of the biggest problems with the left is essentially that they seem more focused on what I call 'cosmetic changes' of which language is perhaps the most important. There are several that I've noticed in other places, mostly on campuses and Hollywood.
I think one of the more annoying ones (though not at the level you speak of) is the way non-binary performers in particular are pressing for changes in dividing awards based by gender because (in the words of on such performer) 'there's no place for them in the Emmys. There's an argument this is more part of the elitist nature of the left as well as cosmetic as well as selective logic. These actors are perfectly fine playing roles of genders that don't conform to their identity - Milly Alcock had no prolem taking a role as Supergirl as Emma Corrin had zero difficulty playing Princess Diana. In other words, it's not a betrayal of their identity to take a paycheck for said role but being nominated for a shiny gold statue commemorating your performance - that's the line in the sand you're willing to draw?
I think this would fall under the anti-utilitarian argument you speak of, as it would make society less happy as a result. It essentially would be destroying an age old system and completely redefining it for the needs of one are a relative few and with no real reason then to make those people feel more comfortable at the expense of everyone else. Sadly this is an attitude part and parcel with the left as a whole considering that many of them believe that anything that is 'traditional' deserves to be torn down. Even the idea of gender neutral awards shows is inane because besides the very narrow group who it is 'helping' it is impossible to see what good it would do for the millions of other non-binary characters who are suffering across the world. I find it difficult to believe a non-binary individual in Nebraska or Wyoming's first priority is that bella Ramsey doesn't feel uncomfortable being nominated for Best Actress.
I'm always grateful for your article not just because you're thinking is aligned with mind but because it is far more difficult for me to remain objective about these issues much of the time. Keep on trucking
