I always thought that Greta Thunberg was the dictionary definition of what Gen Z considers activism these days. Protests and marching used to be a means to an end, using outrage to produce political action. Now in activism the outrage is the ends.
Well before everything involving Palestine, I thought Thunberg was the definition of white privelege. Her parents are sailing her around the world so that she can shout at big groups of people and tell them how they are destroying their future. How is this going to save the planet? Does anyone really believe that a bunch of billionaire industrialists were going to hear Thunberg and have an Ebenezer Scrooge type moment and repudiate all they were doing to destroy their environment? Not even the leftists, who inhabit their own reality, really believe that will work.
And as someone who is on the spectrum, I am ashamed of how Thunberg's parents are indulging here like this. They should tell her: if you want to save the world, go to college, take a career that can do something to stop it. I think Thuberg is being exploited by both the left, climate activists and her parents and no one wanted to say that because we're afraid of being offensive or anti-environment.
To be clear I agree with Thunberg's positions on climate change. But she's not an activist. Rosa Parks was an actuvist. Susan B. Anthony was an activist. Harvey Milk was an activist. Thunberg is a spoiled teenager and the fact that anyone thinks otherwise, proves just how badly the term has devolved in the 21st century.
