I am from the last generation that had to use encyclopedias, typewriters and even longhand to do research. I blame the internet for so much of the current generations problems for more than this. Tis generation things that amending the Constitution should be as easy as downloading the next version of an app, that reading is for suckers, that the country was built by racists, and that they live in a dictatorship that hasn't changed since it was founded. As someone who has never used social media other than the occasional facebook post, I do look down on them. Not because of the polarizing world but because we give them a phone and they really think the secrets of the universe are on it. The sad part is, at least your cousin has a vague plan. So many teenagers really think everything should be given to them and they owe the world nothin in return.
