I appreciate your commentary. That's actually more in line with the nuance I am hoping for. The question is whether the people who have been chanting this slogan actually mean that or whether they genuinely mean we should stop funding the police altogether. I'd like to believe it's the former but my experience is not just that the opponents are interpreting it that way but the chanters actually think that way. If that were the strict definition I'd be inclined to be more supportive of it.

Sadly the problem is messaging and the idea that something you can chant or put on a hashtag is more important than nuanced debate. I always strive to feel towards the middle ground in my articles mainly because I see so little of it anywhere on this site. I do agree our police system is flawed - hell, the best thing you can say about the experience I listed was that the whole thing that every aspect of the system failed both me and X - but it's hard to find a clear answer to these things anywhere.

Anyway thanks for your comments, the links and for not de facto dismissing me with the comments I expected were coming. These kinds of lucid criticisms are the thing I hope for in these articles and rarely get.
