I can't tell you how many times I've heard from my mother and other people: if you can't play well i n New York, you're not really a great player.

Really?

Not for nothing but New York has been the center of the sports world since the Dodgers and Giants left for Califorrnia. Oh we've had moments of dominance here in there in individual sports, I grant you but New Yorkers don't kid yourself. Boston has won more championships in baseball so far this century then the rest of the New York in all sports COMBINED. California has more teams that compete in more sports more often then we do and hell Missouri has won more championships in baseball AND football in the past twenty years. The only think New York leads any league in is dissatisfied sports fans and entitlement.

My mother says its been fifteen years since the Yankees won a World Series - 'an eternity' as she says with no irony. Where as cLEVELand last won a World Series when Harry Truman was running for reelction. And the Padres still haven't won a World Series at all. But as anyone who lives in New York, there are only two teams: The Yankees and their opponents. (And yes my mother includes the Mets as among the ones who need to wait their term.)

And baseball of course is where we win frequently. Giants haven't won since 2007, the Knicks... I think Nixon was still in his first term when they won their only championsship. The Jets definitely haven't won since 69 but we don't talk about them. The Nets have gotten as close to the championship in brooklyn as they did in Jersey. tHE rANGERS LAST won the cup in 1994; the Islanders in 1983. But like they said, if you can't play in New York you don't have any talent.

To be clear I actually think this is a good thing - when one city dominants any major sport, its bad for the rest of the league their dominated and honestly as someone who's lived in New York his entire adult life - and who knows that the only think we're number one is self-importance - yeah, I'm not that sorry. bY the way if you give a New York sports fan a hug, they will tell you to go fuck yourself. Not because they resent it, that's the city motto :)
