I didn't give Lynch too much credit when I was younger. When i first rented Mullholland Drive from Blockbuster, my reaction was simple: I want my money back. then I read a book on Lynch and his films, and I saw the movie again and it made sense. I haven't had the nerve to do that with some of his other films (I saw few scenes of Inland Empire and I just couldn't watch any more) But he's a genius. No question.
i'VE written extensively about Twin Peaks: The Return. In the same issue of Entertainment weekly, there was a column calling it a work of genius and a blurb saying it was incomprehenisble. And I completely understand both. Lynch will never make it easy for you. He doesn't films for the average person. But if you have the patients, you'll truly understand that he is 'wondrous and strange'. Some part of me really hopes that he'll make another movie or TV series someday. i'd watch
