I don’t deny that the performances are very strong. (Jeremy Strong in fact. Pun only partially intended. Seriously he’s the only character I can tolerate because he shows flashes of emotion.

I won’t go into the reasons I have a problem with Succession over other series in Peak TV (because I already have written an entire series on it, including why i think its overrated and why it was inferior to Billions at least until the latter’s last season) I just don’t like why people seem to enjoy it. It seems to be based on schadenfraude (sp?) more than anything else. You hate these characters so much you like seeing them suffer. Veep had a lot of vile characters do who were loathsome to each other, but at least that was a satire (or at least it started out that way) and I actually found it detestable in the final seasons for the same reason I had problems with Succession now.

Is it just me? Is there something about bad people treating each other badly with no consequences at all that makes for great television and I’m just not seeing it? That’s actually a legitimate question. Your response is lucid and reasoned, so tell me I’m being wrong. (Or just be like Brian Cox and tell me to Fuck off. I wouldn’t be surprised either way.)
