I don't even think most new yORKERS want a subway world series. Historically the more New York dominates baseball the worse it is for the sport as a business and a fandom. I say this is a natIVE NEW Yorker who has never been devoted to either the Yankees or Mets and goes into every postseason rooting for the team that has gone the longest without winning a World Series.
I feel the pain of the Expo fan as you were as big a victim of the 1994 strike as anyone else. I also feel the pain of the Padre, Tiger and Oriole fan and have to engage in countless lectures with my mother as to why she considers the now sixteen years the Yankees have not won the World Series as 'eternity'. IT'S been difficult to explain that people, in say, Cleveland who last won a world series while Truman was running for reelection, might not feel the same way towards Yankees fans 'suffering' For the record I rooting for the Nationals because their only world championship came in 1924 when the Senators won. That's was two different franchises ago. i actually was a National fan for many years because they went more than thirty years without a franchise at all and that seemed wrong to me. I would have prefered an expansion team but you take what the baseball gods give you.
