I have the same attitude with horror fiction. I can stand the gore but I don't like it if its too fatalistic. I don't know if you've had the misfortune of reading Nick Cutter but he is a candidate for worst writer in history, not just in the horror genre. I've read his two most 'successful' books: The Troop and The Deep in a Barnes and Noble and they were so awful both in terms of prose and theme, I truly wondered if his editor hadn't questioned him for what he was writing.

Don't seek tehm out and pray they never get filmed.
