I remember Roger Ebert saying in the review than an oenophile (forgive my spelling) is an alcoholic who thinks he has taste. I'm indifferent about the ending, but like all of Alexander Payne's films Sideways is a masterwork. All of them are filled with depressed and messed-up characters who can only give the illusion of change in their lives. The Golden Globes has never been sure whether Payne's films are comedies are Dramas. About Schmidt is still my favorite of the group, and my mother thinks The Descendants features George Clooney's greatest performance. I wait with eagerness Payne's next film so I can figure out what is it while I enjoy it.
