I remember Roger Ebert's rave review for Munich at the time. He pointed out that Spielberg was by far the most famous Jewish creative force in Hollywood. "Spielberg did not have to make Munich but he chose too." Spielberg has made many films better than Munich but there are very few he has made that are darker and braver. The hopelessness Avner has in his final statement near the end expresses the feelings that so many of us have towards the Middle East and the remorseless attitude of Rush at the end can be seen in the kind of attitude that has led us to where we are today. It's more relevant now then its ever been. And it almost makes you wonder if Spielberg, in 2005, saw the future more clearly then we want to admit.
