I saw the footage on Tuesday. And I wrote a satirical piece about it Weds. It was a laugh so you don't cry reaction. Those of you who've read my comments on other piece know my feelings about this and I know I'm probably going to have to deal with this seriously at some point.

I will add one last thing that infuriates me the most. Forget all of the demands the protestors have been making, which we all knew were impossible to accomplish. It's the demand for amnesty that shows at their core, how utterly priveleged and spoiled this generation. It's not enough they did all of this out of reasons that, as you eloquently put it, were ubiquitous to the situation. It's not just that their methods were so outrageous that they disrupted classes, causes property damage and led to a national distraction. No, they don't think they should face consequences. Maybe they're naive enough to think they haven't done anything wrong or maybe their entitled enough to believe that everything should come free to them and they should be able to do whatever they want.

Maybe some of them to feel powerless and voiceless and want to use this as a standin against establishment. But taking a stand means you have to be willing to pay a price. Earlier generations of protestors were more than willing to do something - even irisk their lives - for a greater good. These kids are fine with their actions as long as there are no consequences to them personally. Everyone else should have to listen to them and they shouldn't get a mark on their permanent records. All of this is the same theater we see with so much climate change activisim and so many of the marches for racial equality: they take what is a legitimate issue and make it all about themselves. They are right to have their feelings. But to do so with total indifference to the conseuqences, I can not and will not forgive that.
