I take it that's a no.
i would like to address this comment to those kind and enlightened people who have reacted to my article expressing support for tolerance and empathy for finally proving something I have suspected for years.
I have spent a ridiculous amount of time in the last couple of years reading columns written by authors who are completely and utter in tune with the attitude in these last series of comments. They just use better language and fewer obscenties. As someone who believes that the only future for our country and world is trying to bridge the gap and coming up with solutions rather than writing doomporn, I spend an inordinate amount of time and energy trying to engage with these writers. I was polite, then I became sarcastic, then I ranted at them, and than I began to basically to the best thing for my collective sanity and ignore them.
I have spent my time and energy on political columns that try to argue for centrism and unity to show my support for these authors and urging them to ignore the intolerant haters who spend all of their time saying that it's not our fault, it's theres. Usually I receieve support and encouragement. This is the first time I have been receieved hate mail . That I did so for expressing agreement for tolerance is an irony that does not escape me but very clear has escaped all of you.
Your reactions - particularly that last one, Michelle - hasn't given something I have never had in the last three years of dealing with this.
Freedom.
You've officially confirmed that you and so many of the people in your bubble are as blind as you claim not to be. You are incapable of seeing anyone else versions of events that does not match even remotely with your own. You are as bigoted and prejudiced as everyone you claim to hate. And the sad part is, you will never see it.
But that's not my problem any more because now I know it for sure. And as a result, I can do what everyone's been telling me to do.
Ignore you.
I can stop following the last of the columnists who have spent years and years writing about the same thing with no purpose then to hear praise about how horrible everyone else is. I can stop writing comments in columns by people I disagree with trying to engage with them and make them see reason. These last several exchanges have demonstrated conclusively that you never will.
And I can focus on those who can be reached and those like the author of this article who plead for unity. I'll still make the effort to write my blogs to try and argue against the talking points you on your side have, but I'm not going to do so as an effort to reach you but rather those who have an open mind. I don't expect it to be easy, but I'm willing to do the work, which is more than I say for you.
So thank you for this. Really. You can do what you're planning to do anyway and unfollow me now. It's not like you were listening anyway. aND those of you who read this article and agreed with the points that were made, do yourself a favor. Ignore them too. This job is hard enough without getting bogged down in this.,
