I took a pass on the Franchise despite its cast precisely because I got exhausted of these kinds of series from HBO over the last decade. Armando Ianucci is the showrunner and while he's loved by many, I have never been one of them. He's always struck me as a one trick pony in his previous shows: which is basicall rich people are privleeged assholes with no redeeming virtues. This got tiresome on Veep (long before Trump arrived on the scene, in my opinion) and wasted a lot of talent in Avenue 5.
The Franchise struck me as essentially the same principle using Marvel movies as its veil to basically tell the same story I've long since gotten sick of. I prefer the breed of comedies we've gotten in this decade in which were laughing as much with the bad behavior of the main characters as we are at them. HBO's gotten better at this the last few years with shows like Hacks and Somebody Somewhere. The Franchise seems like a throwback and I don't think that's a good thing in this case. I really hope it doesn't get renewed for another installment. Sequels are always worse than the original and there isn't much of value in this.
