I'd recommend much of the writing of Donald Honig including Baseball America, one of the greatest baseball books in history. The Glory of Our Times by Laurence Ritter, the first oral history of the sport telling the story of baseball from the start of the 20th century and Leo Durocher's autobiography Nice Guys Finish Last. Most sports autobiographies try to spin themselves as the heroes of their stories. Durocher does something I'd never seen before or since. He tries to make himself come off as misunderstood but he is unapologetic about his behavior and is proud of his being unpleasant and nasty. I've read a lot of baseball autobiographies written before and after, none have ever been this blunt about who the subject was or unapologetic for it. That's unheard of for any authobiography much less one having to do with the National pastime.
