If you really were just watching Jeopardy to see Alex trebek, then clearly you were watching this for the wrong reasons.

Alex Trebek hosted quite a few game shows before Jeopardy. He started out on High Rollers. He worked on Classic Concentration much of the same time he was working the early years of jEOPARDY. hE HOSTED A FEW shows in between (check on imdb.com) And I will be the first to admit that he was great at his job. But the thing Jeopardy wouldn't have last five years, much less thirty-six if it hadn't been for the contestants.

A lot of people are having trouble accepting that fact. They've gotten so used to Alex Trebek being there that they would, IMHO, be unhappy if anybody hosted the show in his place. Hell, TV Guide actually jeered the contestanst for taking away the attention from LeVar Burton the week he hosted.I found that offensive.

Now maybe I'm wrong because as a long time viewer I care far more about the intellectual competition than most people. I realize that the lion's share of every game's shows fans are more about the emcee than any real attachment to the contestants. But anybody who has been watching Jeopardy for an extended period of time KNOWS that this show is the exception. Winning five games on Jeopardy matters as much at did in 1985 as it does in 2020. As far as I know no Jeopardy contestants winning streaks or antics on line have ever broken the Internet or inspired discussion among the media than Game of Games.

Alex Trebek was great as the host of Jeopardy. But a large part of the job - which he did very well - was to make the contestants look good. Being a Jeopardy champion has status that few other shows - competition or otherwise do - as far as I know there haven't been a bunch of books written about to win The Price Is Right.

Bottom line, if the only reason you watched Jeopardy was because you liked Alex Trebek, there's the door, I'll get your hate. I can report with certainty that are millions of people who want to see if Matt Adadio will break David Madden and Julia Collins record when the series starts in a couple of weeks. And if you don't know who those people are, then honestly you have no real reason to be so upset about who ends up hosting it.

All right. Go ahead and shoot
