I'm not saying dystopian futures are the ONLY reasons I have never watched Walking Dead, Handmaid's Tale or Westworld, nor am I enthusiastic about the prospect of watching Squid Game. But considering how so many people - including certain columnists on Medium who I've already berated - seem to be looking forward to a dystopian future (in some cases maybe for the sole purpose of just saying I told you so before the lights go out) is it so wrong that every once in a while I'd like to watch something on television that isn't poison. I may not be a fan of the Star Trek series (it's just never gelled for me, sorry) but some times I like watching series where everything doesn't seem to shout doom and gloom. Abbott Elementary or The Good Place or This is Us or Stranger Things. Shows that tells even when the world is stacked against, friends and family can make a difference. Some of the shows I like may be period pieces, but in a way so are shows like Star Trek. We have to believe in goodness. Otherwise, how do we get out of bed?
