Interesting side note: I was watching the Critics Choice Awards in the lead up to the Oscars. Jane Campion takes the prize for Best Director, is ebuillent says she's in awe of Serena and Venus (who are there because of King Richard) and says: "You never have to play against the guys. I always have to play against the guys. "

The next day, the internet erupts because Campion was 'slamming' that Serena and Venus have competed against men before and I guess she was either a racist or belittling them. I don't have to tell you what Campion was saying when she said that particular comment, and believe me I appreciated the context of it. But i'M guessing that the people who hated on her were either 1 under 30, 2, hadn't seen the piano, or 3) didn't know who this old woman was accepting Best Director.

Campion was forced to apologize and the day I heard about this I wrote a long piece given the context of her award and that Campion had no reason to apologize for her remarks. I guess while we're accepting awards we have to be sure we don't offend anyone in the midst of the euphoria we're experiencing. I don't know why no one bothered to even take Campion's side during that moment. I was actually angrier about that then her being eclipsed at the Oscars.
