I've actually covered a variation on this subject when it comes to awards being broken down by gender and how non-binary performers have led a charge as to saying awards show should eliminate genders as categories. I'm opposed to this for several reasons but my most succinct is that if this the case, non-binary actors should only be willing to play non-binary characters.
I direct my argument to Bella Ramsey, Milly Alcock and Emma Corrin who all played female characters on TV in the past year. So to be clear, you're fine playing a role that isn't in accordance with your gender, you're fine taking a paychck for that same role, you're fine doign publicity for that character in that role for the series. But being nominated as a female performers THAT'S where you draw the line. Milly Alcock has been cast as Supergirl. The world 'Girl' is in the title. But being nominated for a Best Actress award, that's a compromise.
I admit I can be a bit more irritated about this and I also know it's not anywhere near what you're discussing in your subject. But I don't think I'm being a traditionalist so much as pointing out hypocrisy and as we all know that is something that we are all capable of, no matter how you identify.
