Never liked Gladiator when I first saw it. Still can't get into it 20 years later. My flaw I admit. I would probably put Matchstick Men in its place because it features one of Nicolas Cage's best performances. Roger Ebert named it one of the best films of 2003 and it really sings. American Gangster was far better than many of the films that got nominated for Best Picture in 2007 and Washington should have gotten another Oscar nod. And though it doesn't count, he also directed the 1984 Apple Ad, considered the greatest commericial in history. In my opinion, the Academy should have given him the Best Director prize he's been owed for thirty years for The Martian, but they didn't even nominate him for that prize because they decided A. G. Irratu needed to win back to back Oscars for some reason.
