One of my biggest beefs with the Emmys in 2023 was that The White Lotus was nominated as a drama. Now I loved both seasons very much but the idea that The WHite Lotus had to compete in the same category:
Actually here's my argument
I think the series should be competing in the anthology category at the Emmys, and seriously I love Jennifer Coolidge I truly do but she won an award for best comic performance from the MTV movie and TV awards and when they have a better handle on TV than the Emmys, there's something wrong.
I am intrigued by your definition of this series more in terms of horror than anything else: of all the genres connected with it, that's not one that would occur to me. (And for the record White Lotus came out several months before The Menu so if there's an influence there its only beacuse of the order you saw them in.) I don't see them so much as Shakespearan tragedies as more on the line of drawing room farce, the kind where comedy is played in the wake of tragedy.
As I said I'm looking forward to Season 3. But if it goes up against shows like Yellowjackets and Slow Horses, I'm going to find every Emmy voter and leave the same kind of gift Armond left Shane at the end of Season 1. I know what the price was for him; it would still be worth it.
