One of the better joys of Peak TV has been seeing some of the greatest character actors in history earn their just rewards from the Emmys. In this century I have seen such great talents as Zeljko Ivanek, Richard Jenkins, Ben Mendelsohn, Courtney B. Vance and Billy Crudup receive Emmys for their incredible work in shows and series worthy of their talents. (I was hoping Giancarlo Esposito would join their ranks this year but such was not to be)
One has seen it happen with great actresses such as Laura Linney (even without Ozark she had three) Toni Collette, Juliannne Nicholson, Thandie Newton and Regina King (she got three Emmys before she got her Oscar; one after it).
Giamatti got his first Emmy for playing the title role in John Adams which also earned one for Linney and Tom Wilkinson. Nathan Lane finally got his due last year for Only murders in the Building. I hoped that this year's Emmy would give the chance to so many of my favorite actors to get a win but such was not to be with some of them.
Here are some I think might still have a chance in the year to come (take note)
Imelda Staunton and Jonathan Pryce for The Crown
Jennifer Jason Leight for Fargo
Jodie Foster for True Detective (I want her to get closer to the EGOT)
Giamatti and Maggie Smith for Billions
Melanie Lynskey for Yellowjackets (she's up this year) and later on Christina Ricci
Marcia Gay Harden for So Help Me Todd
Hopefully this year such legends as Baranski, Nixon and Carrie Coon (a favorite since The Leftovers) will get their due as well.) Lane might very will win another Emmy this winter and Taraj P . Henson might triumph as well. The Emmys don't always get it right when it comes to certain shows, but when it comes to actors I love winning, I can never complain. The trend will likely continue
