Poor Things is a feminist film, absoultely no question. While Barbie is a very well done product placement movie that is essentially a feminist film for children. Perhaps young girls will look at it and start thinking bigger things but like all movies for children the bigger messages were directed at the adults who would have gotten them already. It is a sad factor in the state of the world that the right has decided this film is destroying America's youth and the left was embracing it as the messages movies need BEFORE anybody bothered to see it. Barbie is a well done product placement movie to be sure but trust me, fiffeen years ago it wouldn't have had a chance in HELL of getting a Best Picture nod.
I'm glad that 'Barbenheimer' revived the intelligent summer blockbuster this year for multiple reasons, but let's not kid ourselves Oppenheimer was the more miraculous box office smash. I was determined to see that in the theaters and wait until Barbie came to cable. Right call, right call now. I'm overjoyed Ryan Gosling and America Ferrara were nominated for Oscars (especially her, I've loved her since Real Women Have Curves) but Gerwig did not deserve to be ranked among Best Directors and Robbie among Best ACtress. In my opinion, the Golden Globes absolutely made the right call when they gave Poor Things Best Comedy.
