Pride actually shows this. The brilliant film telling the story of how in 1980s London Lesbians and Gays came out to support the miners and their bond against Maggie Thatcher (their common enemy) helped lead to the pasage of gay rights as part of the political platform. Dominic West plays a character who was one of the first patients diagnosed with the disease but as the ending titles reveal, he was still alive at the time of the movie thirty years later.
