Roger Ebert though both Murnau's version and Herzog's 1979 remake were among the greatest films ever made: both films made his Great Movies Books. And he truly loved Shadow of the Vampire, which is one of the most brilliant satires of filmmaking I've ever seen as well. Bill Skarsgaard being cast is a little on the nose though. Then again if his brother were cast, Nosferatu would end up being being more, fable. (No I was not a fan of True Blood BUT aLEXANDER is brilliant in everything else.

And its pretty clear that Joss Whdeon used the model for several of the older vampires - such as the Master in Season 1 and the Ubervamps in the final season of Buffy - entirely on Nosferatu.

You left out Bela Lugosi's version.

Robert Eggers modern master of horror gives us his version of the greatest horror film in history. Somehow I think he'll be up to it.
