Roger Ebert thought this film was overrated when it came out and no matter how many times I've seen it, I still agree with him.

I honestly don't know why so many people loved it at the time. I've read the book its based on, it's not very good (Palanhuk is a horrible author who's used the films success to right variations on the same book for the last thirty years) the film gives itself away in a visual trick fiffteen minutes into the opening, Pitt and Norton are giving performances that is far below the standard of the previous years (Norton in particular a disappoinment after his stunning work in American History X) and though Fincher and everybody have been saying the message was misunderstood, that's entirely the fault of the moviemakers who have a great first half-hour and tehn completely lose the thread.

Fincher is a brilliant filmmaker and I've loved almost every film he's made. Seven and The Game were masterpieces hbefore this, Zodiac and The Social Network and Gone Girl were outstanding after this. This movie and Benjamin Button are the worst films in his ouevre. And I don't agree this movie had a ton to say. It has one thing to say and it keeps saying it over and over.

That's why, I do not talk about Fight CLub. It doesn't deserve to be.
