Thank you. It's been clear to me that all those shouted the loudest for a 'ceasefire' are marching alongside those who chant from the river to the sea and honestly think it means an end to hostilies rather than what it actually does.

They don't want an end to hostilities; that's just cover. The loudest yellers of this haven't been subtle about their anti-semitism (Oh, I'm sorry anti-Zionism. I don't hate Jews, I hate Israelis who are jus products of Wstern Imperialism and therefore just colonialists.) They will argue as hard as they can that Israel being the bastion for democracy in the Middle East is COVER for how bigoted they actually are. They will argue that everything Hamas has done is justified because of their persecution and somehow manage to yada yada the Holocaust, never mind thousands of years of persecution. To them Israel should just get over the genocide it suffered, to them there is no separation between the Israeli government and the Jewish people in Israel. (Jon Oliver, sad to say, seems just find parroting these talkin points. He's usually smarter than taht) And they all seem to know about what's going on better the people who make policy or live in this region eevn though the majority of them probably couldn't find Israel on a map before OR after October 7th.

I'm not even convinced most of the people chanting even care about Palestine or Gaza. All of this is just a matter of subjectivism. There are so many horrible things going on across the globe that are worse than this - not just in Iran or Syria, but in Africa and even throuughout Europe. All of this is fundamentally the arguement about the uniform idea that the majority in a nation are always the OPPRESSORs the minority always oppressed. And it comes back to that great evil: the West responsible for everything that is wrong on Earth and therefore always the villain. They will never see any equivalence but their own, never see any version of events that doesn't match their worldview, really think that they aren't bigots when they express their hatred under the guise of intellectualism.

This is just the latest of their own outrages which are the only valid ones and not anyone else's. The dead don't matter to them, certainly not in Israel. All that matters is a slogan, a chant, a chance to stick it to the man, even if they don't know who they're really yelling against. They see the whole world through ivory towers and the lens of the books, see trhe world through a moral perspective, rather than the world of politics, economics or everything else. And their morals are the only right ones and if you disagree you're a monster too. They call for a ceasefire, not peace, not an end to war. That would involve work and negotiating and planning. And that's never been part of their bailwick. To them there is right and wrong and they alone can arbitrate. And if we question them, we are the enemy. They prove this on this site more times than I can count.
