That is painfully accurate. I also think that House's attitude was very much that of the Hobbesian behavior towards living - Life is short, brutal, harsh and solitary is the foundational statement of his Leviathan and it basically sums up House's attitude towards everything.

I watched House for its entire run but I always thought there was something unmistakingably broken about him. The pilot was famously titled Everybody Lies and that's not just how House treated patients but what he seemed determined to prove. House didn't so much seem happy as when he solved the puzzle of the diagnosis but when doing so he could shatter the patient's illusions about themselves and the world. There seemed to be a part of him that rejoices privately when they were as miserable as he was. He could only enjoy any kind of pleasure when he was making people miserable - his personality was toxic. He viewed the world in this Hobbesian approach and only thought that was the way to live. He liked being alone for that reason - he was the only person who could live up to his own standards.

For better or worse our society needs deception in order to function, whether it be in belief of a system or an afterlife or something to keep us going. House was alone because never went along with that construct. In his mind, honesty was the only policy. I truly believe that's why he was alone. He could never be honest with himself about his need for people.
