This is a tough show to watch. It was hard to watch in 2014 and its probably going to be even more painful now. But it was also (very quietly) one of the best shows of the best decade.

Theroux was incredible as was Eccleston, but the standout was the incredible Carrie Coon. I actually think the ending work (no spoilers though) and the reason i believed it (far more than I can believe in lost's even now) was Coon's performance. The ending basically depends on the final scene which is basically an uninterrupted ten minute monologue. It works (and in effect, the series does) based on whether you believe Coon's performance. For me there was no question. Coon has been one of the great underappreciated talents of the last several years (witness her subtle work in Season 3 of Fargo and Season 2 of the Sinner) but this series was her finest hour. In 2015, she was given a Best Actress in A Drama Series by th Critics Choice award for The Leftovers. There have been few times where I've been prouder of my chosen profession than that one.

If nothing else, this may be the only apocalypse based series where the cast of Perfect strangers is critical to the plot. And if that doesn't lure you in, I don't know what will
