This is without question the greatest performance Gyllenhaal has ever given. One is reminded of Billy Wilder's Ace in the Hole, with Kirk Douglas creating a media circus around the rescue of a man trapped in a cave man so that he can resuctiate his career in New York. Except Gilroy goes even further then the extroardinary Wilder was willing to do, by not only showing an unrepentant Bloom at the end of the movie but showing that the world is even more then willing to do what he is. The final scene is terrifying in its constuct because we've already seen what Lou is willing to do to the people who work for him to get his story. I'm not sure what is more frightening: the idea of the turnover rate for him in the future or that more people might be willing to become him to do what they need. A triumph for all involved, no quesiton.
