Unfortunately justice doesn't work that way. The legal process is a long and complicated one. We can't move at the speed of public opinion. And by the way, the only reason Trump began his election campaign the day after the midterms was to give himself cover. He knows how the legal system works in America and he knew how the indictment schedules proceeds. He kew these investigations take years to happen, therefore he knew that if he scheduled his campaign to bein in the fall of 2022, any indictment would be served afterwards he could 'spin' as interfering with his campaign.

Because of how the American justice system works and because of how the political system works, we could not begin prosecution Trump as quickly as the world wants. And that of course is before you get into jury selection. Don't kid yourself; many of the people at this column who are the angriest about Trump don't think we should have even bothered with a trial; in their minds, he should have been handcuffed, jailed and forced to face a firign squad on January 21st 2021. Many people still want this happen to anyway according to these bl;ogs. Presumption of innocence and due process do not apply to Republicans.

I disagree with the context of many of your columns, but in prinicipal I believe we have a similar ideology. I have spent much of the last year arguing in several series that extremists on both sides have been fighting battles that are the wrong ones. I am a fan of rationalistm and polite discourse. For awhile, I tried to create chaos in the comments of other columnists but they never so much as responded. This is a tricky problem, I admit, but only raztionality and polite discourse will save us. Otherwise, there's no point to having these fights at all.
