What does it say about how so many people view the genre that EW once claimed that Silence of the Lambs was the only horror film to win Best Picture? I think its a brilliant film and it is one of those occasion the Oscars decision across the board was universal - it deserved the sweep - but I have always considered closer to mystery or procedural? As far I know aside from the films you listed, the only other horror movie ever nominated for Best Picture was Get Out. The fact that films as brilliant as Bride of Frankenstein, any of Val Lewton's films and Us(Lupita Nyongo was robbed of a nomination after winning almost every critics award for Best Actress in the book) just shows that the Oscars will never invite horror to the party unless, you know, it comes from inside the house! (For the record, I think Seven is closer to a horror film than Silence of the Lambs is)
