With the exception of Tootsie (and yeah, that's not exactly one to justiy) most of these movies are kind of among the worst I've seen. Sad to say, you haven't quite scratched the surface a lot of the films in the 1980s did this exact same thing and there were at least two or three films that i recall in which a straight man pretended to be gay to get close to a woman. The closest to a reversal was an 80s comedy Just One of the Guys where a teenage girl impersonates a boy - and it's not even nearly as good as it sounds, which is terrible.
Tootsie and Doubtfire managed to get buy on star power. There were too many films which relied on the gimmick alone. I'm normally the kind of guy who says that you can't judge a film of forty years ago by the standards of today. The exception holds for a movie liKE Soul Man or Little Sister which when I was TWELVE could not understand why anyone who make this movie and think it was funny. It's bad enough these movies were offensive, when you wonder what kind of writer would think this was a good idea and what kind of studio would greenlight it, I go to scary places in my mind. I do hope we're past this kind of thing, though I have to tell you much of the workt of Tyler Perry frequently makes me doubt it
