Yes I know. We're having two different conversations: the one that you think matters and the one I do.
In my world, I believe that given all the very real threats that transgenders face in America both now and especially with the new adminsitration, whether or not a corporation does a film with a transgender character should be low, if not non-existent, on the priorities of fights to wage and things to be made about.
In your world, this is a fight that you think is equal to all of those same fights and by giving it that same weight, you're negating so many of those real life harder struggles will be facing.
In my world, we have to deal with the threats that not only transgenders, but all minorities will face in America and the real world - from actual threats. Violence, lack of ability to receieve life-affirming drugs, the ability to keep their jobs, health care, protection under the law.
In your world, this decision by Disney to give in to political pressure is a moral failing that must be shouted out. The fact that this is an economic decision pure and simple is noted, and of course denied, because morality is the driving force of your article.
And that you have decided that 'pop culture and politics' deserve to be talked about in the same breath as if one is directly related to the other and if the reflection of equality in one is AS important as in the other, shows the mindset of a certain way of thinking particularly on the internet.
In my world, I'm thinking of all the real-life problems we will be facing not just in the next four years but in all the years to come and that I've read so many, many articles where these seem to be the battles that not only you want to wage but you think are more important than all the other ones. And that causes me as much despair for the future as the MAGA movement and conservatism.
My parents - much older than me and who have almost no connection to social media - say I worry too much about these articles and arguments. I'm not sure I'm worried enough. The fact that you've basically chosen to ignore the questions I've raised and call me an idiot - the de facto response whenever I try to raise these questions in any form to so many of you on this site - gives more credence to my argument.
I do read these articles. I read more of them then you want to know. I am hoping, more often then not, for intellecutal debate, rational thought or as least some kind of mind in this argument when I make comments., What I get is insults and the kind of cognitive dissonance that makes me wonder if you could survive in a world without your cellphone or your screens for ONE DAY. I know I could. I think if you couldn't post an opinion about anything for more than five minutes, you'd shrivel up and die.
